Identifier: Photo Album of Early Graduates ca. 1892

Scope and Contents

A note dated July 7, 1958 on the detached cover of the item indicates that the album was given by Mrs. Rose McQuiston McLenahan.  The note indicates that she also gave a picture of the class of 1892, but the archives is not in possession of this photograph.

Varona Boyd - Inserted in the page of this photograph album was an undated obituary from an unknown newspaper for Mrs. LaVona Boyd Graham, assumed to be the Varona Boyd pictured in the album.  The clipping has since been discarded, but it is entirely quoted here:  "Mrs. LaVona Boyd Graham, 86, widow of Andrew S. Graham, died Saturday morning at the Meadville Home for the Aged after a long period of illness.  She had resided at the home since last June.  The daughter of the late James and Edna Fairbanks Boyd, she was born in Meadville and graduated from Meadville High School.  She attended Edinboro and Clarion State Teachers Colleges, graduating in 1892 from the latter.  She taught school at Kane and Butler, and later at Hastings, Neb.  She was a member of Stone Methodist Church and Beacon Light Class, Col. Crawford Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; Watson's Run Women's Club, a charter member of the YWCA and the Meadville Women's Club.  Surviving are a brother, Dr. Martin V. Boyd, Meadville; three stepsons, Howard W. Graham, El Monte, Calif.; John L. Graham, Clearwater, Fla., and James H. Graham, Houston, Tex.; and several nieces and nephews.  Friends may call at the Waid Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday.  Interment will be at Greendale Cemetery.  Members of Col. Crawford Chapter, DAR, will conduct services at 8 p.m. at the funeral home."
